Illingworth-Kilgust Mechanical's Randy Girard Wins National Competition for Computer-Aided Design Detailing
MILWAUKEE, WI - April 5, 2011 - Randy Girard, a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Operator at Illingworth-Kilgust Mechanical, was awarded first place in the first ever national CAD detailing competition sponsored by the Sheet Metal Workers International Association (SMWIA) and the International Training Institute (ITI). The competition took place in March in Las Vegas.

The CAD Detailing Competition was part of the SMWIA/ITI Annual International Sheet Metal Competition where 275 sheet metal apprentices and journeymen from the U.S. and Canada competed in six categories. Twelve finalists participated in the Detailing category, emerging from 75 semi-finalists who had competed in regional contests. "Detailing is the wave of the future and this contest is proof of the top talent our industry has to offer," stated James Shouldes, Executive Administrator for ITI. "The Detailing Competition highlights the growing demand for detailing skills which allow sheet metal workers to generate and manage 3D building data using BIM software."
Mr. Girard is an accredited CAD operator with 2080+ hours of drafting time on ITI software, certified to work on ITI's 3D duct, piping, steel, and equipment drawing BIM software. He has been with Illingworth-Kilgust for four years, and works on complex mechanical designs for a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
